The Wexford Concert Orchestra
This performance is part of an initiative developed by Music Network and the Irish Association of Youth Orchestras that aims to encourage young people to attend live music performances and to experience the benefits of performing live music through interaction with professional musicians. The concert programme will feature a selection of classical, romantic and world music works for wind. The Wexford Concert Orchestra will join Prey to perform an improvised composition that has been developed through a series of workshops.
Formed in 2000, Prey is a unique wind ensemble that uses unusual combinations of instruments exploring the different timbres they can create. Their repertoire is extensive and their performances appeal to all types of audience, from the uninitiated and those with a passing interest, to the most passionate and dedicated music lover.
Founded in 2005, the Wexford Concert Orchestra under the direction of Vicky Clancy provides a platform for showcasing talented young musicians. All players are multi-instrumentalists, allowing for marvellous and diverse music making, which has been richly displayed during their many public recitals. Since their inception, the WCO has performed with Eanna McKenna’s ‘Young Wexford Singers’, and the ‘Lund Symphonic Wind Band’ from Scandinavia. They have also undertaken a number of radio broadcasts.
